The World Cup is here. On Thursday, Mexico v South Africa sees the 2026 tournament get up and running.

THE GROUP STAGE
Mexico and South Korea qualify automatically from Group A, with Czechia just sneaking through in third place.
Co-hosts Canada finish second in Group B, behind Switzerland, though Bosnia-Herzegovina also find a way into the knockouts at Qatar’s expense.
Brazil top Group C, ahead of Morocco, with Scotland progressing through the groups for the first time at a World Cup.

Türkiye, propelled by the likes of Kenan Yildiz and Arda Guler, qualify top from Group D, with the United States taking second place and Australia finishing in third.
Germany, Ecuador and Cote d’Ivoire all progress from Group E, with three also progressing from Group F — Sweden, Japan and the Netherlands.
Belgium and Egypt progress from Group G, but with Iran managing to pick up enough points to creep through in third. Group H sees Spain and Uruguay progress with ease.
France, Senegal and Norway all make it through the ‘group of death’, with Argentina and Austria progressing from Group J.
Colombia top Group K ahead of Portugal, while England and Croatia are the only teams to progress from Group L.
