THE GOOD
Goodison Park got a grand old send-off on Sunday. The match against Southampton was hardly a classic, but Iliman Ndiaye etched his name into Everton folklore with a first-half double, and Jordan Pickford ensured the final player to score at the stadium would be an Everton player when he pulled off a fine save to deny Cameron Archer late on. It was a day for celebration and reflection, as a chapter almost 133 years in the making came to an end. The emotion in the crowd was reflected by those former and current Everton players on the pitch. The end of an era, and the start of a new one. There she goes.
Crystal Palace claimed their first major trophy on Saturday, downing Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup final thanks to Eberechi Eze’s deft early finish. Palace surrendered possession and rode their luck at times — Dean Henderson saved a penalty, but should have been sent off for a handball. However, Palace were worthy winners, with City, as they have shown so often this season, lacking the speed of thought and urgency to really cause too many issues. But Saturday was all about Palace, as Oliver Glasner proved just what a coup it was for the Eagles to bring him in last season.
