Five Premier League Players Who Should Move This Summer
Transfers away from their current clubs would make logical sense.

There’s always some players who head into the off-season looking destined for a move away from their current club. Some of those players get those transfers, others don’t.
But with silly season well under way, who are five Premier League players who should be aiming to move this summer.

KALVIN PHILLIPS
Kalvin Phillips’ drop-off in the past two seasons is probably a cautionary tale.
It shows that even a club like Manchester City can get things badly wrong when it comes to scouting and transfers, and evidence that a player of Phillips’ calibre just wasn’t quite ready for the step up.
Phillips was excellent for Leeds United, and given he had worked under Marcelo Bielsa to such a great effect, plenty were expecting him to be a useful option for Pep Guardiola.
But injuries, a lack of form and sharpness — combined with Rodri’s importance to City — meant Phillips only made a handful of appearances over his first 18 months at the club, and a loan move to West Ham materialised in January.
That switch should have been the restart that Phillips needed to get back on track and ensure his place in England’s Euro 2024 squad. Instead, he made just eight league appearances, with only three of them being starts, and made some costly mistakes.
West Ham will not be taking up a permanent option but Phillips and City will be keen to get him a move away. Everton are among a number of clubs reportedly interested, though City are likely going to have to settle for a loan deal — or take a significant hit on the initial £45million fee they paid for the 28-year-old.
BRUNO GUIMARAES
This one won’t be popular with Newcastle United fans, but a player of Bruno Guimaraes’ class should not be going without European football at this stage of his career.
Signed as one of the first buys under Newcastle’s Saudi Arabia-backed ownership in January 2022, Guimaraes was an instant hit.
He is reportedly of interest to PSG and Manchester City, and it’s easy to see why. The 26-year-old scored seven goals and eight assists in the Premier League as Newcastle finished a respectable seventh in 2023-24, but Man United’s FA Cup triumph means the Magpies will not be in Europe next term.
The stats speak for themselves — Guimaraes is one of Europe’s best all-round midfielders.
A robust tackler, Guimaraes is far more than just a typical No.6. Indeed, he is all three central midfield positions rolled into one, and is set to take a leading role for Brazil at the upcoming Copa America.
He may not be desperate to leave Newcastle, but if Man City were to come calling, then it would be hard to turn them down. And with PSR reportedly a concern for the Magpies if they want to significantly bolster their squad this summer, they may have to bite the bullet and wave goodbye to Bruno.
