France v the Netherlands had been picked out as a potential highlight of the group stage at Euro 2024.
Two of the tournament’s heavyweights were going head-to-head in Leipzig, with safe passage from Group D on the line.
As it turned out, Friday’s goalless draw was a damp squib — one of the first real disappointments of Euro 2024 (England aside).
The pre-match build-up was dominated by talk of Kylian Mbappe. Would he recover in time? Would he play with a mask?
In the end, Mbappe was deemed fit enough for the bench, but he wasn’t risked by Didier Deschamps, who took safety first to the next level.
Not only in his approach to Mbappe, but to the match as a whole.
