Coady questions fairness of points deductions
Former Everton defender says the Toffees would have been "killed" by a deduction last season.
Conor Coady has questioned the “fairness” of applying points deductions for breaches of the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Regulations.
In November last year, Everton became the first team sanctioned for a breach of the league’s rules, and were dealt a 10-point deduction having been found to have lost £19.5million over the limit of £105m across a three-year cycle ending in 2021-22, a season in which the Toffees stayed up in their penultimate game.
Prior to the confirmation of a partially upheld appeal, which resulted in four of those points returning, Everton — along with Nottingham Forest — were charged with a further breach of PSR, this time for the 2022-23 campaign, in January.
While Forest’s case is set to be heard this week, Everton’s hearing in front of an Independent Commission will take place later in March, with decisions due in early April. Any appeal process could well run until after the Premier League season concludes on May 19th, meaning the relegation battle could well be decided in the courtroom.
