The season had not even finished when the first shock Premier League managerial change of the summer was confirmed, as Brighton announced Roberto De Zerbi’s departure.
De Zerbi was flavour of the month this time last year, but his relationship with Brighton seemed to have soured, albeit they part on good terms.
That announcement was made on Saturday. Three days later, it was confirmed Mauricio Pochettino, after just one season at Stamford Bridge, was leaving Chelsea. Like in the case of Brighton and De Zerbi, Chelsea and Pochettino had mutually agreed to part ways.
De Zerbi and Pochettino were both swiftly linked with the vacant Bayern Munich job yet, after being turned down by Xabi Alonso and snubbed by Ralf Rangnick, and then mulling over potentially asking Thomas Tuchel to stay on, the Bundesliga giants have gone for, of all people, Vincent Kompany.
